What is the Legion

The Legion is a democratic, non-partisan, member based organization whose mission is to serve Veterans, which includes serving military and RCMP members and their families; to promote Remembrance; and to serve our communities and our country. As the largest Veteran and community support organization in Canada, more than 300,000 members in over 1,400 Branches across Canada make a difference in the lives of Veterans and their families, provide essential services within communities, and Remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country.

As a branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Kensington Legion has called West Hillhurst home since 1953. Although historically the Legion has been thought of as a place for older Veterans, the Kensington Legion is proud to also have a blossoming membership of all Canadians who support the principles of The Legion. When it was founded, the Kensington Legion had only 61 active members. Today, it is one of Canada's largest branches, serving over 2,000 members ranging in age from 20 to 110.

What are the Legion's objectives

The Legion’s primary objective is to encourage, support, and participate in all forms of municipal, community and national service. Among a wide range of activities, the Kensington Legion is a not-for-profit organization that offers: services to veterans (i.e., entitled benefits support); schools involvement (assisting local youth through bursaries, scholarships, and athletic activities); recreational programs (a range of members activities, both on-site and off-site); and community involvement such as Meals on Wheels and Boy Scout and Girl Guide program support.

Through this development project, the Kensington Legion is excited about a new chapter for the organization in West Hillhurst. The project will provide the Legion with a new home that meets the current and future needs of the organization while allowing it to stay in the community that has been home to this branch for over 60 years. We look forward to remaining an integral part of the community and we kindly ask for the community to support us as members or just to simply frequent our first class facility.
